Boom Boats!
A Battleship-style naval game where nothing happens until you decide it does. First you hide a ten-ship fleet on your own grid — tap a ship, tap a cell, rotate if it needs to lie the other way. Then the shooting starts, one turn at a time, until somebody's fleet is gone. No clock, no reflexes required, just guessing where the other side is hiding.
Setting up your fleet
- Tap a ship in the tray, then tap a cell on your grid to drop it.
- Rotate flips a ship between lying flat and standing upright before you place it.
- Not in the mood to plan? Random auto-places all ten ships for you in one tap.
- Once every ship is down, hit Battle! and the turn-based firing begins.
Why it's a good first strategy game
There's no vocabulary or reading required to play — everything is tap-and-watch, so the strategy lives entirely in where kids choose to hide ships and which cells they choose to fire at next. Guessing badly costs a whole turn, which is a gentle, low-stakes way to learn that a plan beats a random guess.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many ships does each fleet have?
Ten. You place all ten yourself before battle starts, either by hand or with the Random button, and the hidden enemy fleet has the same count.
Is there a smarter way to place ships than just guessing?
Spreading ships apart rather than clustering them makes it harder for an opponent's hits to reveal a whole ship at once — a small habit that teaches kids to think about hiding information, not just placing pieces.
Do I need to know how to read to play?
No — placing ships and firing shots is entirely tap-and-see, so kids who aren't reading fluently yet can still play and follow the hit/miss feedback on the grid.
